WSG Paving Project Announcement 6-7-2021

MAIL KIOSK ACCESS TO BE DISRUPTED

Re-Paving of Parking Lot Scheduled by Fearrington Homeowners’                                                                Association

CAUTION:  Beginning Monday May 24, Blalock Paving Company will be re-paving the parking lot surrounding the Gathering Place.  This will impact all the buildings that use this parking area, i.e., the Gathering Place, Fearrington Cares, the Mail Kiosk, and the Fearrington Swim and Croquet Club.

Paving may be completed in 3 days, but inclement weather and other disruptions may mean that interference with normal operations lasts longer.

Vehicle access to the Gathering Place, Fearrington Cares, and the Swim and Croquet Club will not be possible at these times. Access on foot may be possible, but visitors should be aware that a building may be totally inaccessible at some times. Parking along Weathersfield and Swim and Croquet may be possible, but these streets too may be disrupted by construction equipment. It is best to avoid the area if you can.

If you need to visit any of these locations, it is wise to contact the location first for up-to-date information about access.

Access to the Mail Kiosk will be similarly disrupted.  Mail delivery may be impossible some days, but we are consulting with the Post Office about maintaining it as much as possible.

We apologize for the disruption and the inconvenience, but it has been several years since the parking area was last paved, and the surface is in serious need of improvement. We ask for your understanding and cooperation while the construction is in progress.

Changes in the schedule will be posted on the Home Page of the FHA Websitehttps://www.fearringtonfha.org/index.php

Please direct questions to Director of Facilities, facilities@fhaboard.org

Possible Car Thieves and Email Scams in Weathersfield

BE AWARE . . . LOCK YOUR CAR . . . CLOSE YOUR GARAGE

On a regular basis, a late model SUV has been observed in Weathersfield closes between the hours of 10:30 P.M. and 1:30 A.M.  THIS IS NOT SOMEONE DELIVERING NEWSPAPERS.  The same car has one or more occupants and comes into the closes and appears to look for open garages and unlocked cars.  When observed and called out to, they quickly flee.  One of the individuals who gets out of the car is a tall, thin, Caucasian young adult. Unfortunately, these individuals are far enough away that the person observing them cannot tell the color or exact make of the car or read the license plate.

Please be aware that this is happening on a REGULAR BASIS and seems to suggest that our neighborhood is being “cased” for unlocked cars and open garages.

Please make sure that you keep your garages closed at night and, if your car is parked in the close parking lot, keep it locked.

If you are able to get identifying information about this vehicle and/or its occupants, contact the sheriff’s dept. with that information.  The 24-hour non-emergency number is 919-542-2911.

In addition, Email scammers are, again, at work.  If you receive an email asking for assistance of any kind with Jo Bolig, WSG President, as the sender, know that THIS IS A BOGUS EMAIL.  Do not respond to these emails.  The senders do not use Jo’s legitimate email address.  They ask for “help” that may take the form of requesting gift cards.  IGNORE ALL SUCH SCAMS.

WSG Reminders: Spring 2021

The Spring Reminders bulletin is out with important information about the Wednesday Meet and Greets at the Grove at the end of Weathersfield.  These weekly meet-ups, a cherished Weathersfield tradition, begin again Wednesday, March 24, starting at 5:00 p.m.

If you are new to Weathersfield in the past year, you will want to read how we make the gatherings a success.  And, everyone needs to read about the new COVID guidelines for safe gatherings in Spring Reminders.

WEATHERSFIELD SPRING FLING . . . SADLY, NOT YET

For many years, a much-anticipated event has been the annual WEATHERSFIELD SPRING FLING where the community gathers in The Grove in late April or early May to share favorite appetizers or desserts, socialize with friends and neighbors before the buggy season sets in, and introduce newcomers to our community.  Residents have invited friends, and, in some instances, those same friends have later moved to Weathersfield and looked forward to this yearly event.  Sadly, COVID 19 put the kibosh on last year’s “Fling”, and it seems unwise to plan the event for this year as well even though many in our community have been fortunate in getting the vaccine.  The “Fling” would still involve the sharing of food and drink and close contact in a rather large group.

These have been very isolating times to which all of us can attest.  Some folks who have moved to Weathersfield in the past two years have yet to experience the “Fling” and this is disheartening.  Those of us who have lived here for a while pride ourselves on the well-deserved reputation for friendliness and hospitality that our community has earned.  With this in mind, please reach out to one another (especially newcomers who have arrived during the past two years) and say that brighter days are ahead, and a SPRING FLING will likely be on the schedule for 2022.

Note: While this is not a WSG Board-sponsored event, an enthusiastic, energetic committee forms each year to plan for this gathering in The Grove. An invitation will go out next Spring asking if you would like to be involved.

REJUVENATION IN WEATHERSFIELD (UPDATE)

In recent weeks Weathersfield residents have received information concerning the upcoming Rejuvenation project which begins on Tuesday, January 12th.  The WSG Board of Directors convened a Special Meeting on Saturday, January 9th to discuss all aspects of rejuvenation and what it believes will be its positive, long-term benefit.  The following Motion unanimously passed “All shrubs, bushes and trees having been marked with tape (pink or orange) or white paint will be rejuvenated as planned by WSG contractor, Ruppert Landscape, or as adjusted by the WSG Landscaping committee acting on behalf of the WSG Board of Directors.  Exemptions may be granted only to those who have formally appealed to the Board of Directors and received approval for these exemptions beforehand.”

We encourage residents to visit https://www.ruppertlandscape.com/ and https://www.ruppertlandscape.com/coachs-corner-what-is-rejuvenation-pruning to gain a greater understanding of rejuvenation, why it is needed, and what to expect once it is complete.  The Board thanks you, in advance, for your patience and hopes that you will extend every courtesy to the Ruppert crew and the Landscaping committee as this process goes forward.

Rejuvenation in WSG January 12 – 15, Weather Permitting

Regarding the previously announced rejuvenation process, which is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, January 12, please read the following notifications:

  1. Marking:  Ruppert marked each Close on Wednesday and Thursday, January 6 -7 as follows:
    1. White paint on bushes, shrubs, trees: the white paint indicates to what level these will be pruned.  Anything above the white line will be pruned leaving the rest to flourish with new growth.
    2. Orange tape: any bush, shrub or tree marked with orange tape means that these will be minimally hand pruned.

PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE THE ORANGE TAPE SINCE IT IS MEANT AS GUIDE MARKINGS FOR THE CREW

2. Parking in your Close: From January 12 – 15: Please either park in your garage or at least 6 feet from the curb so that crews can prune the bushes or shrubs that border that area.

3. Removal of Christmas lights/decorations: If you have not already done so as the hardcopy Rejuvenation Notification placed at your doorstep requested that you do by January 4, please remove all lights, decorations, or other garden decorations (solar lights, statuary, etc.) so that they will not impede the crew.

4. Christmas tree pick up: Ruppert will remove Christmas trees on January 14 – 15 when they will be doing debris removal.  Please place them on the debris brush piles located in your Close.
