Landscape Committee Notice

Ruppert Landscape will be back in Weathersfield on December 28th to complete regular maintenance for 2021. This will include leaf blowing and debris cleanup prior to the New Year.  Christmas trees and leaf bags will also be picked up on the 28th and again in early January.

Ruppert will continue an approximate 10-day schedule through winter.  Services will include picking up yard waste, loose debris and leaf bags; perennial bush pruning and lawn mowing, as required; and lawn preparation.

Regular weekly services with resume on Wednesdays, weather permitting,  in early spring.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Please refrain from putting out brown paper leaf bags or other yard debris until Ruppert’s next expected maintenance visit.

Mulching:  Ruppert will, weather permitting, begin community-wide mulching on January 17, 2022.   It is better to complete mulching early in the year before the grass starts to germinate.

Davey Tree:  Weather permitting, a crew will be in Weathersfield on January 10, 2022, to perform required pruning around houses and over garages.

Additionally, Davey Tree will be thinning out many of the Crepe Myrtle trees on Common Areas sometime in March (date to be determined). Please be aware that no trees are to be cut down or severely reduced in height.

With best wishes for a safe, restful, and enjoyable Christmas and holiday season and New Year!

WEATHERSFIELD HOMEOWNERS AND RESIDENTS

As was recently shared on the WSG website, Ruppert Landscape will begin its fall and winter general maintenance in WSG starting on:

Wednesday, November 24, 2021, and Monday, December 06, 2021

Maintenance on these two days includes leaf removal and general turf maintenance. Mowing will be done on an as needed basis. Please mark your calendars for these dates and please refrain from putting out brown paper leaf bags or other yard debris until the night before, or the day of, routine maintenance on these dates.

Starting in December, Ruppert will spot prune and begin preparing beds for mulch as well as general cleanup and maintenance.

To reiterate:

Ruppert recently completed aeration and overseeding on the grass on both sides of the Weathersfield road and the right side of Swim and Croquet to the T-junction at Village Way on November 12, 2021. For the grass to germinate over the fall and into the spring: (1) please do not park vehicles on the grassy edges along these roads and (2) notify contractors or other visitors not to park on the grass.

It would be appreciated if all residents are mindful of keeping WSG clean and beautiful over the coming months. Thank you.

Additional dates will be forthcoming. Please check the Weathersfield website, www.weathersfieldsg.org for upcoming dates.

Ruppert Landscape Fall & Winter Schedule

Ruppert Landscape will begin its fall and winter routine maintenance in WSG starting on the following two dates which is approximately a 10-day schedule. Additional dates will be forthcoming.

November 24, 2021

December 06, 2021

    1. Please mark your calendars and please refrain from putting out brown paper leaf bags or other yard debris until the night before, or the day of, routine maintenance on these dates.
    2. Ruppert completed aeration and overseeding on the grass on both sides of the Weathersfield road and the right side of Swim and Croquet to the T-junction at Village Way on November 12, 2021. For the grass to germinate over the fall and into the spring, it will be important to observe the following:

Please:

  • Do not park vehicles on the grassy edges along these roads
  • Notify contractors or other visitors not to park on the grass

It would be greatly appreciated if all residents would be mindful of keeping WSG clean and beautiful over the coming months. Thank you.

New Start Date: Aeration and Overseeding

NEW START DATE:  Ruppert Landscape will begin aeration and overseeding of all grassy areas on both Common Areas and private property (up to the HVAC) on Thursday, October 21, weather permitting.

Aeration: Compacted soil prohibits three vital elements lawns and grassy areas need (water, nutrients, oxygen) from reaching the root system. Core aeration will allow these elements to penetrate the root zone, improving growing conditions and thereby reducing run off and making fertilizer application more effective.

Overseeding: Turf areas can be supplemented and enhanced by overseeding (broadcast spreading) of lawn and grassy areas with a blend of Tall Fescue and Bluegrass, depending on the type of green that exists.

Reminders from the Landscape Committee

Friendly reminders to all homeowners:

  • That if garden debris is placed at the entrance to the Close or on the side of the road for pick up by Ruppert Landscaping, it must be in paper BROWN LAWN BAGS, not plastic bags. Ruppert will not pick up any debris in plastic bags.
  • Please refrain from placing the leaf bags out prior to Ruppert’s routine maintenance day – Wednesday– especially if the weather forecast is for rain. Either place them out on Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning. Wet paper leaf bags are difficult to pick up since the bottom tends to fall out.
  • Please be respectful of the Ruppert crew’s job for us and thank you for your cooperation.

Notification Pruning of bushes/shrubs/trees on Residents’ Personal Property WSG Landscape Committee (August 4, 2021)

Now that Ruppert Landscape has completed pruning bushes and shrubs located on Common Areas over the last several weeks, it is time for Ruppert to begin pruning on personal property.  This is to notify all WSG residents that pruning of bushes, shrubs, and Holly trees will start on Wednesday, August 11 and continue weekly thereafter until all closes are completed.

Landscape Committee members will distribute colored tape in each Close no later than August 8.  Plastic bags with tape will be placed either on a bench in the Common Area or with a resident who will share the tape with neighbors.  It is critical that each residence clearly mark (tape) their bushes, shrubs, and other plants that they DO NOT wish to be pruned.

Post Rejuvenation (December 2020), a number of Holly trees on personal property were “flat topped” but have enjoyed a good deal of growth since then.  If you DO NOT wish your Holly tree to be pruned, please tape it.  Otherwise, the crew will shape it to restore a more conical shape.

Per Ruppert’s contract, the crew will not prune beyond the HVAC system or behind residences.  The crew has been similarly instructed not to go beyond these points.

Fall Pruning in WSG

As many of you have been aware during the latter part of June, Ruppert Landscape has been pruning hedges around the parking areas as well as other bushes/shrubs in Common Areas.  This was done due to the post-Rejuvenation growth that needed to be trimmed and the hedges reshaped.

The annual pruning, which will take place in the early fall 2021, will include:

  • Bushes/shrubs on personal property (in front and alongside of resident houses and up to the HVAC system).
  • Holly trees on both personal property and on Common Areas that were “flat toped” during Rejuvenation but now need to be reshaped.
  • Bushes/shrubs on Common Area that may need additional light pruning.

As before, the Landscape Committee will distribute colored marking tape in each Close so that residents can mark bushes/shrubs that they do not wish to have trimmed/pruned.  A resident may request that specific pruning be done.  But not beyond the HVAC system or behind their personal property.

Residents will be notified via the WSG website on the actual dates for the annual pruning this coming fall.

Notification – Trenching and Mulching in WSG On/about March 17 – 24, 2021

Ruppert Landscaping will be “trenching” (i.e., digging a shallow furrow along sidewalks, edges of beds, and Common Areas; a technique that helps contain the mulch in those areas over time.) Trenching, a preparatory step to mulching, will start on/about March 17.  Mulching will start March 22, 2021 and includes both personal property and Common Areas throughout the community.   Weather permitting, Ruppert is hoping to complete mulching in the entire community in 2 – 3 days.  In preparation for both trenching and mulching, please remove any non-permanent garden lights, statuary, or other ornamentation on your personal property to avoid any damage to these items as well as providing the Ruppert crew with easy access to your property.

Dark brown mulch, like what is currently in these areas, will be continued to ensure that color consistency remains throughout.

REJUVENATION IN WEATHERSFIELD (UPDATE)

In recent weeks Weathersfield residents have received information concerning the upcoming Rejuvenation project which begins on Tuesday, January 12th.  The WSG Board of Directors convened a Special Meeting on Saturday, January 9th to discuss all aspects of rejuvenation and what it believes will be its positive, long-term benefit.  The following Motion unanimously passed “All shrubs, bushes and trees having been marked with tape (pink or orange) or white paint will be rejuvenated as planned by WSG contractor, Ruppert Landscape, or as adjusted by the WSG Landscaping committee acting on behalf of the WSG Board of Directors.  Exemptions may be granted only to those who have formally appealed to the Board of Directors and received approval for these exemptions beforehand.”

We encourage residents to visit https://www.ruppertlandscape.com/ and https://www.ruppertlandscape.com/coachs-corner-what-is-rejuvenation-pruning to gain a greater understanding of rejuvenation, why it is needed, and what to expect once it is complete.  The Board thanks you, in advance, for your patience and hopes that you will extend every courtesy to the Ruppert crew and the Landscaping committee as this process goes forward.

Rejuvenation in WSG January 12 – 15, Weather Permitting

Regarding the previously announced rejuvenation process, which is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, January 12, please read the following notifications:

  1. Marking:  Ruppert marked each Close on Wednesday and Thursday, January 6 -7 as follows:
    1. White paint on bushes, shrubs, trees: the white paint indicates to what level these will be pruned.  Anything above the white line will be pruned leaving the rest to flourish with new growth.
    2. Orange tape: any bush, shrub or tree marked with orange tape means that these will be minimally hand pruned.

PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE THE ORANGE TAPE SINCE IT IS MEANT AS GUIDE MARKINGS FOR THE CREW

2. Parking in your Close: From January 12 – 15: Please either park in your garage or at least 6 feet from the curb so that crews can prune the bushes or shrubs that border that area.

3. Removal of Christmas lights/decorations: If you have not already done so as the hardcopy Rejuvenation Notification placed at your doorstep requested that you do by January 4, please remove all lights, decorations, or other garden decorations (solar lights, statuary, etc.) so that they will not impede the crew.

4. Christmas tree pick up: Ruppert will remove Christmas trees on January 14 – 15 when they will be doing debris removal.  Please place them on the debris brush piles located in your Close.
